Dan was born on July 11, 1969 in Chicago, Illinois, to Daniel and Martha (Brunner) MacDonald. He spent the majority of his youth growing up in Stow, Massachusetts and Hudson, Ohio. A 1987 graduate of Hudson High School, Dan attended the University of Notre Dame and the University of Michigan. He met his wife Janet Mary Butler while living, working, and snowboarding in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. They relocated to Southern California and raised their two children, Gwenyth and Devin. A decorated Soldier, he served more than 4 years in the Infantry Branch of the United States Army, achieving the rank of Sergeant (E-5). He was stationed in Baumholder, Germany and deployed to Iraq for 1 year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Daniel is survived by his wife Janet and children Gwenyth and Devin of Newport Beach, California; his parents, Daniel and Martha of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; sister Beth MacDonald Roussel (and Bob) of Sudbury, Massachusetts; brother Chris MacDonald (and Rhonda) of Omaha, Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will hold private memorials in California and Ohio. Daniel will be interred at the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
