Ivy Seren, 83, passed away Tuesday December 4, 2012, at Flower Hospital. She was born May 26, 1929, to Forest and Julia Bellman in Toledo. Ivy and her sister, Corrine were raised at the St. John's Lutheran Orphanage. Corrine passed away at age 16 from diabetes. Ivy was a graduate of Waite High School. She enjoyed working at RCA Distributing and at Toledo Edison as the secretary for maintenance before retiring at age 60 in 1989. She married Paul Seren October 17, 1974, who preceded her in death in 1978. Ivy suffered from diabetes for many years, causing her much pain. She started having trouble getting around, to a point where she could no longer go out for dinner with Penny, which she loved to do. Eventually she had to leave the home that was so dear to her. She went from Flower Hospital to Lake Park Rehab, to Sunset Village nursing home and finally back to Flower Hospital. At times Ivy was irritable, peevish and even crabby. Who could blame her? On the other hand Ivy was concerned about her friends and neighbors. Ivy also took pride in having her hair look just so. Penny doing Ivy’s hair was the Saturday morning routine for many years. I think Ivy was the number one baseball fan in the world. I think she really enjoyed telling me that the “Cleveland Indians stink.” always with a smile. She enjoyed being out on her front porch seeing and talking with her neighbors. Ivy lived a hard life compared to many, but she was loyal, caring and a loving person. Rest in peace Ivy. You are loved and will be missed and remembered always.
