After graduation, Jim was hired by the Winona Daily News which was the third largest paper in Minnesota. He then was hired by the Dayton Journal as a sports writer. Flournoy and Gibbs, a prominent public relations and advertising firm, brought Jim back to Toledo. After many years, Jim started his own public relations and advertising firm, Savage Communications. Jim was very active in the St. Ann's Connection. Before founding Anonymous No More, Jim was active in Alcoholics Anonymous. Jim was diagnosed with alcohol induced dementia in 2009, and had been living at Foundation Park Alzheimer Care Center in South Toledo. Rest in Peace Jim.
